Sharjah Maritime Museum

Sharjah | Duration: 1h | 3,4
The museum on the shores of the sea bay in Al Khan is dedicated to the rich history of seafaring in the emirate of Sharjah.
Sharjah Maritime Museum was built in 2009 and tells the story of the development of seafaring in the region, whose origins date back to 4000 BC. Pearl and fish hunting was the dominant industry in the Emirates until the mid-1970s and gave rise to many coastal settlements such as Dubai, Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah. The discovery of oil, natural gas and the development of industrial pearl farming led to the decline of traditional industries. Seafaring in the form it functioned in the past is now just a matter of history and nostalgia.
