Central Market or also the magical Blue Souq is one of the most visited markets in the entire Emirates.
The "Blue Market" was built in 1978 by Sultan Al Qasimi, ruler of the emirate of Sharjah, as a place where merchants from the entire region would meet to offer goods of all kinds. Thanks to its traditional Arabic architecture and wide range of spices, gold products and souvenirs, Blue Souq is an extremely popular market especially among tourists.
About the attraction
Blue Souq consists of two buildings with high vaults, which are connected by a pedestrian bridge. You'll find more than 600 shops with a wide range of merchandise. In the north wing you'll find mainly spices, carpets, souvenirs and electronics, while in the south wing goldsmiths and jewelers are located. When shopping, it's good practice to always negotiate the price.
Good to know
Blue Souq is located in the beautiful surroundings of the natural city lagoon Khalid Lagoon. The market directly borders the extensive Al Ittihad park and a long promenade that stretches across the entire city of Sharjah.
