Visit to Native Islands

| 4,6
Some island resorts organize visits to native islands as part of one-day excursions. The mentioned trips allow visitors to glimpse into the real life of native Maldivians. There are typical colorful houses with seaside harbors and picturesque fishing villages. Tourists set out to native islands mainly for the purpose of buying various souvenirs, whose prices are incomparably lower here than at island resorts or at the airport.

Another alternative to experience an authentic experience and get closer to local culture is a visit to the capital Male. Male is the most populous island of the Maldives and is among one of the most densely populated places in the world. The capital Male is located on the island of the same name Male and most tourist attractions are located in the northern part of the island within walking distance. The capital is very busy, there are many food markets and shops, with prices significantly lower than at hotel resorts and airport. The most sought-after tourist places are the Friday Mosque, Republic Square, or the national museum. The tsunami memorial commemorates the devastation caused by the earthquake and tsunami in 2004 in the Indian Ocean. The stainless steel structure is dedicated to those who lost their lives during the natural disaster. Their names are engraved on each of the vertical bars of the structure. After a strenuous day spent in the capital, visitors can relax in Sultan Park.
