Tourists who are not interested in strenuous sports activities can enjoy a cruise on a traditional dhoni boat or catamaran. Relaxing on the boat during sunset with a glass of sparkling wine in hand is the highlight of every romantic vacation in the Maldives archipelago. The spectacular display of colors of Maldivian sunsets from the boat allows tourists to observe the island from a different perspective. The luckiest will spot pods of dolphins during the cruise, jumping above the ocean surface, often just a few meters from the island shore. Although sunset cruises are most sought after, resorts also offer  cruises to capture the unique moment of sunrise.

Dhoni is a traditional Maldivian boat that is used for fishing and transporting passengers or cargo. Dhoni is typical for its high rounded ending in the front part of the boat. The vessels are made of wood and their deck is very spacious. The boats were once sailboats, but nowadays most have a built-in internal engine that allows a cruising speed of an average of 13 km per hour. Dhoni is an ideal means of transport used mainly for excursion cruises.

Fishing has been the main source of food for the inhabitants of the Maldives since ancient times. In an effort to bring local traditions closer to visitors, hotel complexes offer fishing lessons. In addition to the triumph of their own catch, fishing expeditions allow tourists to observe the picturesque Maldivian islands from the deck of the boat. A fishing expedition can be undertaken at dusk or before dawn. Currently, night fishing is very popular.
