Fujairah Fort, built in 1670, is considered the oldest fort in the United Arab Emirates. Originally it served as a defensive building and was home to the ruling family. For many centuries it was the only stone building on the Fujairah coast. The fort has three main parts, several halls, one square tower and two round towers. 

The fort was heavily damaged by a British attack at the beginning of the 20th century and in recent years has been fully restored to its former glory. The area around the fort is part of Heritage Village, where you can see restored old houses, exhibits about traditional life such as the Al Yazrah irrigation system, which farmers used on their fields.
