The mosque consists of a prayer hall lined with arches and ventilation holes and a mihrab (prayer niche pointing to Mecca). The central pillar divides the interior space into four squares of similar dimensions, covered with vaulted ceilings.
Archaeological research around the mosque has shown that this site has been inhabited for 4000 years. The large Islamic cemetery in the north contains a massive Iron Age tomb that revealed fragments of pottery, metal arrows and other artifacts from at least 1000 years BC.
