In the heart of Praslin Island, a natural palm forest has been preserved almost in its original state. The Seychelles palm (Lodoicea maldivica) is endemic here, its famous coco de mer nut is the largest and heaviest seed in the plant kingdom. Besides it, you will also find a unique
representative of the bird kingdom - the black parrot.
Lodoicea seychellensis occurs only in two places in the world. These places are Praslin Island and Curieuse Island located in the Seychelles. However, the palm is not even the predominant plant on these islands and often hides in the growth of other plants. The palm has also been acquired by several botanical gardens around the world, but the propagation of this plant is so time-consuming and demanding that it manages to reproduce outside its original range only very exceptionally. Therefore, the Seychelles government decided to plant it on other islands of the archipelago to reduce the risk of fires. All trees of this palm are registered and protected by law.
