Ajman Museum is one of the most visited historical monuments in the emirate. It is located in an old 18th century fort. The fort itself is a perfect example of traditional emirate architecture, built as the residence of rulers and at the same time as the first line of defense against possible attacks. The main archaeological features of the fort are two wind towers, two watchtowers and a magnificent gate with two cannons.
The exhibitions focus on traditional local lifestyle. You will find dioramas of typical everyday life, archaeological finds from the surrounding area, a wide collection of weapons and manuscripts. One of the most significant exhibits is an excavated cemetery discovered in the Al Muwaihat area, which includes ceramic and burial jewelry from the period 3000 years BC. Part is also dedicated to the pearl trade, which once dominated the region.
